Don Harvey Jr. Repeat CNYMS Winner at Utica-Rome

Story by Rich Vleck:
Vernon, N.Y.- Don Harvey Jr. has been always been successful on the ultra-fast 1/3rd mile of the Utica-Rome Speedway, on Sunday Night he strengthened his grasp as he cruised to the victory.

Starting fifth, the winner of the first CNYMS race of 2006, which also took place at Utica-Rome, quickly moved up into second and chased down Rich Wood Jr. to put the 6w behind him for the second consecutive race. For the rest of the race Harvey would weave his way through lapped traffic and pull away for the victory

“This car was just fantastic once again,” said Harvey in Victory Lane. “The track crew tore up the track and made it tacky and I could just drive it anywhere wide-open.”

The win was the fourth for the No. 44 in seven attempts at the two-year old mini track at Utica-Rome Speedway. Earlier in the night, he picked up his fourth career heat win as well.
Mike Kiser, 2005 A-Verdi Storage Containers CNYMS Champion moved up halfway through the race to put himself into second, where he would finish in his No. 99.

“I really wasn’t gaining much on Don, he had a better car then I did tonight,” said the Cooperstown, N.Y. driver who won heat two. “I’m just happy to finish a race.”
Rich Wood Jr. went from fourth to first on the first lap but slipped back to finish third. The Enfield, CT engine-builder now has two top-five finishes on the season, like Johnny Guarino, the driver that finished behind him in fourth. Rounding out the top-five was Bubba Broderick who won his heat but blew his engine coming across the finish line.

Skip Travis finished sixth in his No. 28. This was the first race that the Peekskill, N.Y. driver has ever finished outside of the top-five with CNYMS.

Twenty-four cars in all were in attendance with some driver switches taking place before the feature. Jared Fink has problems win his No. 21 in his first heat race of the season and jumped in the Daniel Lampron backup car. Despite losing power coming the checkered flag, Fink was able to finish seventh, just ahead of Lampron. James Tomlinson and Jon Moore completed the top-10.

The next race for the Central New York Mini Sprints will be this Friday at the Albany-Saratoga Speedway as Don Harvey looks to go for three feature wins in a row in 2006 at the other track besides Utica-Rome that he seems to dominate. For more information, log onto
