Afton Speedway the mecca for Mini-Sprint Racing on Oct. 6-7
Afton Speedway will be the mecca for Mini-Sprint racing on Oct. 6-7 during the inaugural Short Track SuperNationals.
The Mini-Sprints will be in action twice that weekend at the three-tenths-mile oval: on Friday night in a 25-lap, $500-to-win event and on Saturday night in a 30-lap contest paying $1,500 to the winner.
Friday's event will pay $50 to take the green, with the Saturday race offering $75 to the last-place finisher.
Overall, the 1200cc winged warriors will compete for nearly $10,000 in the two-day extravaganza run under Central New York Mini-Sprint affiliation.
There will be a B-Main run on Saturday as well, meaning every car that enters the first-year event will leave with some cash.
Due to lack of interest and scheduling conflicts, there will be no Micro-Sprint racing during the Super Nationals as previously announced.
"I've consulted with several of the top Micro-Sprint names and parts providers," said Short Track SuperNationals co-promoter Brett Deyo. "While both Pat (Jordan, Afton promoter) and I were excited about having the Micros here that weekend, it doesn't look like it will work out this year."
The 1200cc Mini-Sprint program, directed by CNYMS's Mike Emhof, is taking off; Mini-Sprint entries have been received from a wide geographic area - from Canadensis, Pa., to Mendon, Mass.
